Getting out and about on weekends, and even during the week, is beneficial to both you and the kids. With just a picnic lunch,  and a load of enthusiasm, you can find so many different things to do with the family that don’t cost a thing. Here are 5 free places in Brisbane you could visit with the family any day of the week.

1 – Local Parks

You can check out the council park activities – there are all different types of activities – from Chill Outs for older kids to programs for younger kids and their grandparents. You can always just bring a ball or Frisbee and have a play with the kids in the park. There are also bike paths, walking tracks and a lot of other things to try out.

2 – Local Libraries

Have a look at where your local library is on the council website and see when they have events for kids and babies. You can go to a Babies, Books, and Rhymes session that helps with your baby’s pre-literacy, communication, language, and social skills. For kids aged 2-5, you can go to a Children’s Storytime session that involves stories, songs, and craft activities for kids. You can even go along to your library and just explore the different worlds you can find hidden in the pages of a book, and ignite a healthy love of books in your kids.

3 – Museum and State Library

Make a trip a to Southbank to visit the Museum the State Library. Have a look at what’s on by visiting the Museum website and the Library website and plan your day to see as much as you can. There are always lots of fun and educational exhibits on at the these venues.

4 – Pools

If it’s hot out, then you can take your kids to the Southbank pools, or if you’re on the other side of town, the Manly wading pool. These venues provide great places to cool off and chill out with the family, and you can splurge for a nice lunch out or just take your own. You can find many other local pools at the council website to have a smaller trip for a swim.

5 – Roma St Parkland

Visiting Roma St Parkland is also a great idea for a picnic with the family. The kids can explore and see all the cool flora and fauna – and even go on the Explorer Train (which is a gold coin donation). They also have a café if you want to take the day off from making lunch.
