DOAWK Dog Days is like holidays by the pool: easy-going, relaxed, and nicely chilled-out.
It probably isn’t as funny or clever as the previous DOAWK films but it is just as engaging and likeable. Being with Greg (Zachary Gordon), Rowley (Robert Capron), and Fregley (Grayson Russell) is just like catching up with some familiar faces that you haven’t seen in a while, then hanging out with them and your mates.
Greg Heffley is back, and like many Aussie kids right now, is planning to spend the school break in front of the television playing computer games with a bag of chips for company.
His parents have other ideas for him, so Greg tries to go under their radar by inventing a job at the local country club. He spends his days by the pool with Rowley and vying for the affections of the prettiest girl in school, Holly (Peyton List). But the fun doesn’t last forever, and Greg has to face the consequences when his parents find out the truth. 
Dog Days combines books three and four of the DOAWK series into a single film, and does a fine job of it.
The father-son theme carries the storyline well, making this a great film for families to share together.
Be warned though, a couple of the jokes are so squeamishly, ickily funny that my skin is still crawling a week after seeing the film. Dog Days is great holiday fun and a worthy second sequel of the DOAWK franchise.
