Madagascar is back, with triple the fun, triple the action and at least three times the chaos. The whole movie zooms past on a ride that is wilder than the animals, with favourites Alex (Ben Stiller), Melman (David Schwimmer), Marty (Chris Rock), and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) catapulting their way across Europe in a desperate last-ditch effort to get back to New York.

The film begins where Madagascar 2: Escape To Africa finished, with the monkeys making their escape, so little time is wasted in resuming the adventure. The monkeys end up in glitzy Monaco with the rest of the animals in hot pursuit. They figure that if the monkeys can win enough money, then they can all pay for a flight home, but their plan comes (literally) crashing down. The herd attract the attentions of the unstoppable, villainous Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand), so the cast disguise themselves as a traveling circus troupe.

The film moves very quickly, and at times it can be a little difficult keeping up. The setting changes quickly too, so it can be challenging to remember which country they are in and how they got there. Not that specifics matter–and kids will barely notice–but just be prepared for the zany pace. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted is loads of fun and stunning to look at with colourful graphics that sparkle and shimmer across the screen. The final scene, featuring fireworks, balloons and coloured lights is just spectacular.

However, be warned: if you see Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, you will be stuck with the Afro Circus tune in your head for a very, very long time.

Polka dot, polka dot…afro circus!
