freethingsperthPlanning a trip to Perth, or looking for some great, inexpensive things to do with your kids?

If the purse is a little tight, but you still want to go out and experience what Perth has to offer, we’ve put together a few things that are great for kids to experience – and they won’t break the bank.

Kings Park and Botanic Gardens

This is a great spot for a family day out. Bring a picnic or buy food out, and enjoy the beautiful landscape and environment of the park. The Botanic Garden is great for little ones who are particularly interested in plants and flowers, and even a great place to have wander and talk about all the different type of plants you can see.

Your locals parks are a great place to start if you’re just looking for a quick day out with minimal planning also.

Western Australian Museum

Check out all the cool and interesting exhibits at the Museum, in Perth’s Cultural Centre. Kids with any kinds of interests will have a ball walking through and exploring all the different things you can see.

There are always special events and changing exhibits, so whenever you go there is bound to be something, if not lots of things, that you and the kids can enjoy. The best part is that it’s all educational as well as interesting and fun!

Art Gallery of Western Australia

Creative and artistic kids will love a trip to the Art Gallery. Seeing all the modern art as well as old classics is a perfect chance for them to learn about artistic history and where modern art came from. There are kids events and activities on offer all through the year, as well as special ones for school holidays.

There are hands-on and practical activities that let your little ones get creative – and you can take home their art to put on the fridge. The Art Gallery is located in Perth’s Cultural Centre too, so you can hop between some of these during the day

State Library of Western Australia

Apart from just exploring all the books and stories you can find in a library, the State Library has activities, events, and film screenings running all throughout the year. This is a great place to visit that won’t break the bank, but will be fun and educational at the same time.

This is the third in the trio of great places to visit in Perth’s Cultural Centre – try all three in one day, although you might find it hard to leave one once you’re there!

Markets

There are so many different kinds of markets on at all different times of the week, month, and year in Perth. They range from handmade markets, to fresh food markets, to a mix of everything! Take the kids along and check out all the cool, cute, and amazing local products you could possibly think of. The food and drink at markets is always top notch as well.

All the markets run at specific times, so have a look at what’s going on in your area – or the area you are visiting – to make sure you get there at a time and on a day when they are definitely open!
