Names taken from TV series Game of Thrones are starting to appear on the list of baby names in England and Wales.
The Office for National Statistics (England and Wales) has released data on baby names for 2013.
According to the information, there were 187 children named Arya born last year.
Other names inspired by the popular TV series were Khaleesi (50), Daenerys (4), Sansa (5) Catelyn, Gregor (11), Tyrion (6), Brandan (4) and Theon (11).
It wasn’t the only TV series to influence baby names last year.
There were 58 baby boys called Walter in 2013 and 72 baby girls called Skyler. Walter and Skyler White are the lead characters in Breaking Bad. There were also 11 boys named Skyler.
And superheroes are getting a look in as well. But the baddies are beating the goodies with 37 baby boys named Loki but only 13 named Thor!
And the real royal family (as opposed to that of Asgard) continue to dominate the list with Harry (3), William (8) and George (10) all in the Top 10.
Other key findings from the list of 2013 Baby Names – England and Wales – include:
- Oliver and Amelia were the most popular first names given to babies born in England and Wales in 2013. Amelia has been in the top spot since 2011 while Oliver replaced Harry, the top name in 2011 and 2012.
- In England, Amelia was the most popular name in all regions and Oliver was the most popular name in five out of the nine regions.
- In Wales, Oliver was the most popular name, replacing Jacob, while Amelia has been the most popular name since 2012.
- Oscar and George replaced Alfie and Riley in the top 10 most popular names, climbing from number 17 to 7 and number 12 to 10 respectively.
- Poppy replaced Lily in the top 10 most popular names, climbing from number 13 to 7.
