Organise your medicine cabinetRecently I had a cold and spent two days on the couch. That’s not good when you’re a mum and you work – the whole place seemed to go into chaos! I realised my medicine cabinet was in need of major attention.

We had our medical supplies in containers on one shelf and also scattered around the house in about two other places, makes it hard to just grab that throat spray or children’s medicine when you need it in a flash!

So I thought I’d share how I got my medicine cabinet into order with the help of 4 small kitchen bins, 2 small baskets, an under-shelf tray and some labels!

This was our old top shelf previously, every time we needed something from there, we had to guess what container it was in! Nightmare, things were always falling out on top of you when you took them down too!

I got all the medical supplies out, and discarded all the items that were out of date, (that felt good to do) then decided how to allocate them into 7 sections.

Using some white kitchen bins I put all the things in that we use regularly, but this still posed a problem, we couldn’t see at-a-glance what’s inside, it looked neat, but needed some labels.

So I designed up some labels in these groups:

  1. Children (so we can grab anything we need for the little guy, quick!).
  2. Pain Relief.
  3. Bandaids + Antiseptic + Stings + Creams (we always need to be able to find the Bandaids, quick sticks!)
  4. Cold + Throat + Cough Ear + Nose + Eye + Hayfever (so glad these are all in one place now, we even have throat lollies and Strepsils in this bin).
  5. Thermometers: these are now in their own home in the new under-shelf tray
  6. Prescriptions: we can even keep the repeat documentation here now.
  7. Vitamins: this is more for prevention, but now even that has a designated space.

I used a red cross as part of my design.

Then printed them onto an A4 adhesive sheet.

And cut them out with scissors and stuck onto them new containers.

A strip label worked well on the small basket, I just tucked into the slots and folded over at the back to join.

Relief at last… organised medicine supplies… priceless!

The labels just happen to match my cups… love it! and now we can see what is in each box! Sometimes getting sick is a good thing!

Here is the full pic, finally everything is all in the one spot and up high for the little guy! It’s amazing how much medicine stuff you have around really isn’t it? I might even add in a couple more shelves down the track for even more space.

How does your medicine cabinet look?

I’m glad getting sick prompted me to organise this, and I’m hoping this post might inspire you to get organised so you can get on with getting better next time you’re sick or just need a Band aid and in turn do more of the things you love!
