If you feed your baby S-26 formula – you should read this!
The S-26 Original Progress formula, batch – 40727482A2 – has been questioned for its safety after one mum found a very unpleasant surprise waiting for her when she opened the tin.
Only one batch is affected – 40727482A2 – and has been voluntarily withdrawn from sellers, and no other batches are reported to be affected at all.
The incident involved the dead body of a lizard being found in a sealed tin of the formula. A Sydney mum opened the tin to a foul stench, then found the lizard’s moments later.
*UPDATE*
We have been given an update from Aspen Nutritionals regarding the incident:
“Aspen is voluntarily conducting a precautionary trade withdrawal of the affected batch number 40727482A2 while it investigates the issue, and that no other products or batches are affected. This means that retailers have been asked to send back any stock with that batch number for replacement with a new batch of the product. This could take a number of days and Aspen sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused.
Aspen Nutritionals does not believe this is a health and safety issue. Consumers can continue using the product. If consumers feel uncomfortable or want further information they are requested to contact the Aspen Nutritionals Careline on 1800 552 229 from 9am-5pm AEST.”
Only this one batch of this one product is affected at all – so carry on with any other products (S-26 Gold etc.) and batches without hesitation. If you have this batch – 40727482A2 – of this product, you ARE able to continue using it – but if you have any doubts, call the Careline. The new batch of this particular formula should be available to purchase imminently.
EDITED TO UPDATE
Aspen Nutritionals has received test results for our investigation of S-26 Original Progress formula, batch 40727482A2.
The report from the manufacturing plant states that the batch is wholesome and passed all chemical, physical, microbiological (including pathogens) and sensory specifications at the time it was released into the market. There is no safety concern for this batch therefore it is safe for consumption.
The NSW Food Authority has completed microbiological testing of a sample of cans in Australia from S-26 Original Progress, batch 40727482A2, and found no contamination in the sample.
