Brisbane was in a twirl of delight these holidays when our favourite prima ballerina pirouetted into QPAC’s The Lyric Theatre. Angelina Ballerina, The Mousical assembléd a lively stage performance based on the popular television series with a clever crossover into a theatrical setting. Angelina and friends had been invited to appear live on a special television broadcast, and had to prepare a new dance to perform for the show. Bad attitudes threatened to barre the whole production, but teamwork proved to be the right balancé they needed for the event to go off with aplomb.
A bravura experience from beginning to end, Angelina Ballerina, The Mousical brimmed with vibrant costumes and lively dance sequences. Clever use of sets and finely detailed choreography kept the action moving swiftly enough to maintain the fascination of even the youngest mouselings, while the simple story line remained engaging throughout. Audience participation created a wonderful ambience that spilled right off the stage to get young and old clapping, cheering and dancing, whether they wanted to or not.
The mouse may have been in the house but the highlight was undoubtedly the special guest appearance near the finale of some adorable local talent. A lively production that was never cheesy, Angelina Ballerina, The Mousical was a moust-see treat for kids. It was more fun than we could camembert.
