These places will also keep them heartily entertained, so it’s a win-win really! Here are 5 of the top things to do with kids in Canberra.

1. National Zoo and Aquarium

The only place in Australia you’ll find a zoo and aquarium in one – the National Zoo and Aquarium. You and the kids can book in for interactive experiences with different animals, as well as taking a tour of all the animals. The aquarium is Australia’s largest saltwater tank – so you’re bound to see a lot of aquatic animals you might not normally see in other aquariums. This is an amazing place to take any kids – especially those with a keen interest in animals. There is a shop, and also café or BBQ area, so you can have a special café lunch or bring your own from home! See all the great things you can do on the website for the National Zoo and Aquarium.

2. Questacon – the National Science and Technology Centre

Kids will go crazy for all the cool, hands-on games and fun activities at Questacon. Not only will they be kept entertained by all the amazing exhibits, they’ll be learning all about the wonders of science and technology too. Let your mini scientists explore all day, then take a rest in the café, and maybe buy some souvenirs in the shop before leaving! Their website will give you all the information you need for a day at Questacon.

3. Gold Creek Village

This cute little village packs a punch – in this one area, you get to see the Canberra Walk In Aviary, Cockington Green Gardens, Canberra Reptile Zoo, and the National Dinosaur Museum. The Walk In Aviary houses nearly 600 species of birds – perfect for kids who love their feathered-friends. At Cockington Green Gardens you can see many world-famous sights in miniature form! The Canberra Reptile Zoo is home to Australia’s largest and most deadly reptiles – all there for you and the kids to see. The National Dinosaur Museum will allow you to get up close up and personal with real, fossilised dinosaurs, and new animatronic dinosaurs to show the kids what they would have looked like all those many years ago.
