Birrarung Marr
Birrarung Marr the newest major park in Melbourne, built in 2002. It is on the bank of the Yarra River, next to Federation Square. This huge park has a playground, BBQ facilities, a bike/walking track, and Indigenous artwork – the perfect mix of culture and fun!
ArtPlay
ArtPlay is located at Birrarung Marr, and has lots of fun, arty things for kids to do. The free activities there include Font Factory, Weave Sculpture, Shelter, ArtPlay backyard, Card Art Spaces, and Space. All of these activities will keep the kids entertained and learning while they have fun.
Botanical Gardens – Ian Potter Foundation Children’s Gardens
The Ian Potter Foundation Children’s Garden has lots of awesome places for kids to explore and have fun – from the Ruin Garden, the Bamboo Forest, to the Kitchen Garden and more! Be warned though, parents – your kids are bound to get a little dirty playing in all the gardens – there is also a stream they can play in – so be prepared for them to be a little wet, too! Pack a lunch and visit the Botanical Gardens for fun-filled day without spending a dime.
State Library of Victoria
The State Library always has fun activities, games, and events on – that sneak some education in that the kids might not notice. You can go to the Baby Bounce, or Storytime sessions, or even just sit and read exciting and adventurous stories in the kids’ section.
Federation Square
Federation Square is one of the most busy and bustling places in Melbourne – with lots of activities and events going on all the time. Most of the time they’re free, too! You can eat out a special treat, or bring your own food and find a nice spot to sit and take in all the culture around Federation Square.
